Exhibit A:
A well-known rant titled "The Gamer's Manifesto" in which the authors lament the current state of game AI (particularly in Doom III), beg for "AI that will actually outsmart us now and then," and lament the possibility that "the next generation of games will play just like this generation. Only shiny."
Exhibit B:
A recent QuakeCon talk by John Carmack in which the noted graphics developer (and co-creator of Doom III) states that game AI is "usually a matter of scripting" and comments that throwing more resources at AI is usually a waste of time.
Does anyone else detect an element of irony here?
I don't know if everyone saw this, but it's funny enough to post here: George Lucas Call for Better Game AI.
There are too many punchlines, I can't decide!
